Appiano gentile, a little village in the countryside of Como, one of that place where you can feel the characteristics living of Italy where being together talking in the main square, taking a fast coffee at the bar table and say hello to everyone is usual. Exactly here you’ll find “Il Portico” a restaurant born from the mind of chef Paolo Lopriore and his wife. A place where the Italian tradition to staying at the table is brought at is greatest, the idea is to welcome the guest like they were at the chef’s house. Entering the restaurant, the feeling is to get inside a home dining room, simple tables without tablecloths and with a placemat with a minimalistic home feeling set up.

You’ll be served just the daily menu, like you’ve been invited home from a friend, appetizer, main dish and desserts will be presented in different dishes.. sauces, meat, vegetables.. all separated and the guest will take what it feels and in the amount it feels. And to finish a coffee served directly from the traditional mokka bring you back in the warm of the old cozy feeling. To start:
– Egg on egg at cacio e pepe
– Boiled artichoke heart, artichoke flan, fried eel, figs carpione, puffed pastry pizzetta
– Bread, brown butter, lemon and cloves.
To continue:
– roasted Guinea fowl, his jus at red wine, rice “timballo”, pan sautéed chards, black olives and rosemary.
To finish:
– licorice ice cream, candied lemon, chantilly, anice and fennel salad
– Choux pastry filled with San Marzano borsci.
